April 1,

Dear Evelyn:

Everybody in the room seems to be in the gloom tonight, with the rare exception of me. Price is laying in the next bed his face swathed in bandages. He is suffering from a slashed throat and a badly gashed face; the result of sticking his head through a windshield. Brimer is bemoaning the car whose windshield Price stuck his head through. I’m fondly nursing the thought of seeing you Saturday morning. I’m going to leave here about 7:30 A.M. and expect to see you about 10:00 A.M. Is it a date?

There is one disadvantage to using a typewriter. One has to write so much more to cover a sheet. One can’t leave it half blank. It gives the receiver the impression of something else to be done. Anyway it does at this time seem more or less pointless, because I will probably see you before you get this. I have waited too long.

Love

Bernard

P.S. If you don’t like typed letters, tell me.
