June 14,

Dear Evelyn:

I haven’t heard from you so I judge everything is back to normal. What about a letter of reassurance or might you be sorry? I don’t think so.

I was called into Knoxville again last week-end and of course the natural sequence of events followed, with the exception that I took Flo and Mildred swiming Sunday afternoon and left for Johnson City as soon as I got back.

I have been awfully good and have been getting plenty of sleep, consquently, I feel better and do better and I think you would like me better.

I have a twinge of conscience everytime I think of taking you into Nick’s with that bunch of drunks, especially Sherrod, he is one of these fellows who can’t hold there liquor.

Will I see you the fourth of July, or will you see me the fourth of July?

LOVE

Bernard

P.S. If I work it right I might get a transfer to Chattanooga.

On back:

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country

Would you rather have this letter than none at all?

I would rather write none at all than like this.
